Arrival & Dismissal Procedures

  • Bring photo identification with you to Journey

    Arrival Procedures:

    • Arrival begins at 8:45 am. Students should be inside by 9:00 am. After 9:00 am a parent or guardian needs to sign students in at the main office.

    • Families who use the crosswalk from the parking lot must wait for the carline to stop moving. A staff member will signal when it is safe to cross.

    • Use extreme caution within the parking lot as there may be students who are out of your view, our staff is very vigilant in monitoring students after they exit their car and enter the building, but being overly observant during this time is appreciated.

    Drop Off Car Line

    • Staff will be positioned outside to direct traffic and facilitate an orderly arrival. Please follow their hand signals when pulling forward.

    • Car riders should not be let out of their cars until a Journey staff is outside to assist with Parent Drop Off.
    • If arriving after 9:00 a.m., a parent will need to walk his/her student to the main office. The student will need to be signed in by a parent or guardian.
    • Stay in line and do not pass any cars that are in front of you. If the cars in front of you are still unloading, please be patient to ensure the safety of all students. If the need arises, staff may wave you around a car to keep the line moving, but this will only happen in extreme situations.
    • Please make sure your students are ready to exit as soon as your car is stopped. We need your help to keep the lines moving.
    • All students should remain seated and bucked in proper safety restraints until their car comes to a stop. We suggest practicing unbuckling so students are prepared when the car comes to a stop to exit quickly with all items in hand (bookbags, lunch boxes, and water bottles).
    • Students must exit the car on the curbside. We understand large families may have some students who will need to exit on the passenger side, but we ask you to have your oldest students utilize that side if needed.

    • Cars will fill the entire front sidewalk of the building.  (See the red zone noted below). Students will exit their car and cross the red on the sidewalk to the side closest to the building. Grownups will not be able to wait and watch their students enter the building.  We know this may be hard for our youngest students, but our staff is watching closely.  If you feel more comfortable you can park and walk your student to the school doors.  See above for directions on how to utilize our crosswalks.

    Walkers
    • Walkers meet on the sidewalk across from the school. A staff member will meet students their at approximately 8:40 and walk them across in a group.
    Bus Riders
    • Bus riders will be dropped off along the sidewalk in the bus lot/playground.  Journey staff will be outside to escort students into the building.

    Dismissal Procedures:

    • All transportation changes should be made with the office by 2:30. Students will not be released after 3:15 from the office unless they are ill and the nurse has notified you to pick them up.
    • All new families will receive barcode cards from the office. The barcode is also available in the focus app. Please share a picture of the card or the barcode in the app with anyone approved to pick up your student. If someone does not have their card they will be asked to show a photo ID and the office will confirm that the person picking up your child is approved to do so.

    Dismissal Car Line

    • Families should enter the parking lot and follow the same path to the front of the building that is used in the morning. Following the path ensures we can scan your card and have your student ready. Keeping the students in order ensures a smooth process.
    • The first twenty cars will pull along the south side of the building (parallel with Interstate Drive) marked by the blue arrows in the map below. The next ten cars will pull along the front sidewalk of the building. A staff member will be outside counting cars and directing traffic.
    • A staff member will scan cards and relay information to staff in the building who are organizing the students.
    • After the first 40 cars are loaded the line will pull around the building and will will fill the next 20 cars. A stop sign will indicate where the cars in the blue loading section should stop.
    • Students will be escorted out of the gym in lines that correspond to their spot in line. Occasionally cars don't line up as expected, or students walk in the wrong direction. Let a staff member know and they will help your student find your car. If you student does not exit the building with their group let a staff member know and they will call into the gym for your student. If the line moves before you reach a staff member pull up to the stop sign and a staff member will help you.
    • Once all students in each round are dismissed a staff member will signal that the line is ready to move. Please wait for your vehicle to be dismissed and do not cut around cars in front of you. In the event of an issue with a car in front of you staff will waive you around to keep the line moving.
    • If your in the last 5-10 cars you may not always have your card scanned. Many of our families are very consistent with the order they arrive each day and we typically know these cars and parents very well.
